finding your rythm: how to regulate your nervous system

Two episodes from 15–21 May and 18–24 June 2027 will be all about finding your rhythm!

“Regulate your nervous system” has become one of those phrases you hear everywhere: in reels, in podcasts, on supplement packaging. It often comes with the suggestion that if you’re stressed, you just haven’t found the right breathing technique yet. But a lot of our stress isn’t a technique problem. It comes from too much to do, too little time, too few real breaks, and a world that rarely slows down.

You probably know what that feels like. Shoulders somewhere up near your ears. A jaw that’s been clenched all day without you noticing. Lying in bed exhausted, with a mind that won’t switch off. Even on holiday, it can take days before you actually arrive, and by then it’s almost time to leave.

We can’t change the world in a week and we won’t promise that. What we can do is help you understand what happens in your body when stress takes over, and find tools that actually fit into your everyday life.

In psychological workshops, we will go through the basics together: what stress does to your body and mind, why switching off can feel impossible even when you’re exhausted, and how to spot your own early warning signs before you’re running on empty. We’ll look at your personal stress patterns: what drains you, what you tell yourself when things get too much, and what actually helps you recover.

Then we practise. Breathing techniques that help your body slow down, progressive muscle relaxation, small grounding exercises you can do at your desk or on the bus. Not every tool works for everyone, and that’s the point: by the end of the week, you’ll know which ones work for you, and you’ll take home your own personal toolbox for when life speeds up again.

And we surf, of course. The ocean is a surprisingly good place to practise. When a set rolls in or a wave holds you under a little longer than you’d like, your body reacts, and you get to try out in real time what helps you stay calm enough to paddle for the next one. Back on land, there’s yoga, slow mornings, long meals together, and enough rest to let it all sink in.

IMPORTANT NOTE

This week isn’t therapy and isn’t meant to replace it.

As M.Sc. Psychology I am working with psychological concepts but if you’re going through something difficult right now, we’re happy to talk beforehand about whether this is the right week for you.

Surfing has been Anna’s and Jana’s driving force for years, taking us to new places and allowing us to meet the most incredible people. In 2023 and 2025, we became certified surf instructors, giving us the chance to share our passion with others. Teaching lets us pass on the joy and freedom we feel in the ocean and help people discover their own connection to the waves. We can’t wait to share this passion with you!

Apart from the surf lessons, we’ll have one video analysis session and one surf theory class. In these sessions, we’ll guide you through everything from tides and currents to how to improve your technique.

Surfing is optional – you can book the surf package if it suits you, or simply enjoy the retreat without joining the lessons.

Once Jana, co-founder of tshau, discovered surfing, it felt only natural to pair it with a daily yoga practice. Yoga not only strengthens the body and improves balance, but also cultivates mindfulness and a deeper connection to oneself.

In 2025, she completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and immediately continued her education with a 50-hour Yin Yoga certification to deepen her practice and expand her understanding of the gentle, meditative aspects of yoga.

During the retreat, you’ll be able to enjoy daily yoga classes designed to help you unwind, recharge, and connect more deeply with your body and breath.

With Jana’s Master of Science in Psychology, she has built a set of skills that she now loves combining with her passion for surfing and yoga.

To her, psychology blends naturally with both disciplines, offering space for mindfulness, resilience, and personal development. We are excited to create two workshops, open conversations, and design programs that bring these worlds together. By that, supporting others in discovering their potential and strengthening their connection to themselves and the world around them.

During the week, all meals are cooked by Anna, co-founder of tshau. Expect a mix of comforting favourites and fresh inspiration from her travels, think pumpkin soup, colourful bowls or a sweet, fruity tomato salad. And thanks to our open kitchen policy, you’ll never go hungry in between.

Anna believes good food doesn’t need to be complicated: a handful of beautiful ingredients, prepared with care. Meals are shared around one table, a moment to slow down, swap stories and laugh together. It’s simple: we want you to feel welcome, cared for and at home.

Located in the heart of Hossegor, we will stay in a beautiful, true-to-Hossegor villa. Only a short walk from the beach, perfect for slow mornings, relaxed surf sessions, and soaking up the late-summer atmosphere. With plenty of space to unwind, shared meals in the garden, and the ocean just around the corner, it’s the ideal setting for a week of movement, connection, and inspiration.
