many of you asked about a women’s week and here it is!
Two episodes from 1–7 May and 4–10 June 2027 will be women only!
We will take a deep dive into taking up space. Anyone who has sat in a crowded lineup knows the feeling: you paddle for a wave, someone else takes it, and you tell yourself you’ll get the next one. You apologise for being in the way. You wait. Out of the water, it’s often not so different: in meetings, in conversations, in how much room we allow ourselves. Many of us learned early not to be too loud, too much, too demanding.
Many of us were probably praised for being nice, helpful and easy to be around, while boldness was something others were allowed. It shows up in who gets interrupted in meetings, whose ideas are taken seriously, how we move through public spaces to stay safe, and even in how much room our bodies are supposed to take up. Surfing is no exception: lineups have long been shaped by men. We want to understand together where these patterns come from, which structures keep them in place, what they do to us, and how we can break them.
During the week, the ocean will be our practice ground. We will learn how the lineup works and how we find our place in it. How we paddle for waves, go, fall and go again. No prior surf experience is needed. We will start at the beginning and work our way through the basics of surfing. We will build confidence through knowledge, experience, and time in the water. Spoiler: Taking up space does not mean taking it from others. We will surf with respect for the locals and the rules of the spot.
We will also talk about the topic in designated workshops. Where do we make ourselves small? Who taught us that? And where would we like a little more room? The rest of the week is filled with yoga, good food, community evenings, and lots of laughs.
GOOD TO KNOW
Why a week for women, and not (yet) a FLINTA* week?
We’ve thought about this a lot. A FLINTA* space needs more than a name. It needs people who know these experiences from the inside, and a lot of care in how it’s planned. We’re two cis hetero women, and right now we’d be promising something we can’t fully deliver. So we’re starting with what we can offer: a week for women and everyone feeling included.
At the same time, we’re talking to people about what a FLINTA* week could look like, and who should lead it. Until then, if you’re looking for a FLINTA* surf-space, we are happy to share our recommendations.

Surfing has been Anna’s and Jana’s driving force for years, taking us to new places and allowing us to meet the most incredible people. In 2023 and 2025, we became certified surf instructors, giving us the chance to share our passion with others. Teaching lets us pass on the joy and freedom we feel in the ocean and help people discover their own connection to the waves. We can’t wait to share this passion with you!
Apart from the surf lessons, we’ll have one video analysis session and one surf theory class. In these sessions, we’ll guide you through everything from tides and currents to how to improve your technique.
Surfing is optional – you can book the surf package if it suits you, or simply enjoy the retreat without joining the lessons.

Once Jana, co-founder of tshau, discovered surfing, it felt only natural to pair it with a daily yoga practice. Yoga not only strengthens the body and improves balance, but also cultivates mindfulness and a deeper connection to oneself.
In 2025, she completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and immediately continued her education with a 50-hour Yin Yoga certification to deepen her practice and expand her understanding of the gentle, meditative aspects of yoga.
During the retreat, you’ll be able to enjoy daily yoga classes designed to help you unwind, recharge, and connect more deeply with your body and breath.

With Jana’s Master of Science in Psychology, she has built a set of skills that she now loves combining with her passion for surfing and yoga.
To her, psychology blends naturally with both disciplines, offering space for mindfulness, resilience, and personal development. We are excited to create two workshops, open conversations, and design programs that bring these worlds together. By that, supporting others in discovering their potential and strengthening their connection to themselves and the world around them.

During the week, all meals are cooked by Anna, co-founder of tshau. Expect a mix of comforting favourites and fresh inspiration from her travels, think pumpkin soup, colourful bowls or a sweet, fruity tomato salad. And thanks to our open kitchen policy, you’ll never go hungry in between.
Anna believes good food doesn’t need to be complicated: a handful of beautiful ingredients, prepared with care. Meals are shared around one table, a moment to slow down, swap stories and laugh together. It’s simple: we want you to feel welcome, cared for and at home.

Located in the heart of Hossegor, we will stay in a beautiful, true-to-Hossegor villa. Only a short walk from the beach, perfect for slow mornings, relaxed surf sessions, and soaking up the late-summer atmosphere. With plenty of space to unwind, shared meals in the garden, and the ocean just around the corner, it’s the ideal setting for a week of movement, connection, and inspiration.
