beyond whitewater: take your surfing to the next level and gain confidence in the water
Two episodes from 22–28 May and 25 June – 1 July 2027 will aaaall about surfing!
You’ve done a surf course or two. You can paddle out, you can stand up in the whitewater, and maybe you’ve already caught a few green waves that made your whole week. But then you sit in the lineup, surrounded by people who seem to know exactly what they’re doing, and suddenly you’re not sure where to position yourself, which wave is yours, or whether you’re in someone’s way.
That in-between stage is where a lot of surfers get stuck. Not because they lack talent, but because nobody explains the next steps. This week is all about them.
We’ll spend more time in the water and focus on what helps you progress: paddling more efficiently, getting through the waves on your way out, positioning yourself in the lineup, picking the right wave and taking off at an angle so you can ride along the wave instead of straight towards the beach. You’ll get feedback in the water, video analysis and time to put it into practice, session after session.
Out of the water, we’ll dive into surf knowledge: how to read a forecast and understand swell, wind and tides, why the same spot can look completely different from one day to the next, and how to choose conditions and spots that match your level. We’ll also go through lineup etiquette and right of way, so you know the rules and can paddle out with confidence and respect for everyone in the water.
Between sessions, there’s stretching sessions to keep your body mobile, good food to refuel, and evenings with people who are just as hooked as you are.
GOOD TO KNOW
Is this week right for me?
This week is for you if you’ve surfed a at least one week before, feel comfortable in the ocean, and can stand up on your board in the whitewater. We always choose spots and conditions that fit the group’s level. If you’re not sure whether this week is right for you, just get in touch and we’ll figure it out together.

Surfing has been Anna’s and Jana’s driving force for years, taking us to new places and allowing us to meet the most incredible people. In 2023 and 2025, we became certified surf instructors, giving us the chance to share our passion with others. Teaching lets us pass on the joy and freedom we feel in the ocean and help people discover their own connection to the waves. We can’t wait to share this passion with you!
Apart from the surf lessons, we’ll have one video analysis session and one surf theory class. In these sessions, we’ll guide you through everything from tides and currents to how to improve your technique.
Surfing is optional – you can book the surf package if it suits you, or simply enjoy the retreat without joining the lessons.

Once Jana, co-founder of tshau, discovered surfing, it felt only natural to pair it with a daily yoga practice. Yoga not only strengthens the body and improves balance, but also cultivates mindfulness and a deeper connection to oneself.
In 2025, she completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and immediately continued her education with a 50-hour Yin Yoga certification to deepen her practice and expand her understanding of the gentle, meditative aspects of yoga.
During the retreat, you’ll be able to enjoy daily yoga classes designed to help you unwind, recharge, and connect more deeply with your body and breath.

With Jana’s Master of Science in Psychology, she has built a set of skills that she now loves combining with her passion for surfing and yoga.
To her, psychology blends naturally with both disciplines, offering space for mindfulness, resilience, and personal development. We are excited to create two workshops, open conversations, and design programs that bring these worlds together. By that, supporting others in discovering their potential and strengthening their connection to themselves and the world around them.

During the week, all meals are cooked by Anna, co-founder of tshau. Expect a mix of comforting favourites and fresh inspiration from her travels, think pumpkin soup, colourful bowls or a sweet, fruity tomato salad. And thanks to our open kitchen policy, you’ll never go hungry in between.
Anna believes good food doesn’t need to be complicated: a handful of beautiful ingredients, prepared with care. Meals are shared around one table, a moment to slow down, swap stories and laugh together. It’s simple: we want you to feel welcome, cared for and at home.

Located in the heart of Hossegor, we will stay in a beautiful, true-to-Hossegor villa. Only a short walk from the beach, perfect for slow mornings, relaxed surf sessions, and soaking up the late-summer atmosphere. With plenty of space to unwind, shared meals in the garden, and the ocean just around the corner, it’s the ideal setting for a week of movement, connection, and inspiration.
